Cobb County has a hotline for West Nile Virus information.
To report a dead bird’s location or to get more information about the
virus, call (770) 435-7815.
To reduce the risk of catching the disease, which is transmitted from birds to humans by mosquitoes, health officials recommend you eliminate standing water and wear appropriate insect repellant.
Officials will only pick up and test birds that have died within 24 hours, but will document other cases to look for areas of increased bird fatalities.
If officials do not need to test a bird you find, it can be disposed of by double-bagging and placing it in the trash or burying it two to three feet deep.
