Online All-Star Game Voting
on MLB.com Sets New Records

MLB.com established a new record with in excess of 4.6 million online ballots cast in the "Topps 2003 All-Star Game Online Ballot powered by Nexl," a more than 50 percent increase over the 3 million ballots cast in last year's program. More than 60 million total votes were cast in the online program, also a record. The online balloting ended last night at 11:59 p.m. ET.

"The combination of home field advantage -- "This Time It Counts" -- and great fan involvement gave us the record results this year," said Brian Phillips, club project manager who directs the All-Star Game Online voting program for MLB Advanced Media, the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball. "Once again fans around the world have demonstrated their desire to be involved in this great event."

The Major League Baseball All-Star Balloting Program, the largest in professional sports, encompassed RadioShack In-Stadium Balloting at the 30 Major League ballparks and Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico; Topps 2003 All-Star Game Online Ballot powered by Nexl at the Official Website of Major League Baseball (http://www.MLB.com); Pepsi Retail Balloting at Subway Restaurants and Albertsons grocery stores; and International Retail Balloting throughout Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan and the Dominican Republic.

The 2003 American and National League All-Star Teams will be unveiled on the Major League Baseball All-Star Selection Show, which will be aired live on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, July 6.

This special will feature the announcement of the 17 elected starters, as determined by the fan balloting program, and 45 pitchers and reserves, as determined by the Player Ballot and the two All-Star Team managers -- Mike Scioscia of the Anaheim Angels and Dusty Baker of the Chicago Cubs -- and Major League Baseball.

Following the conclusion of voting and the announcement of the starters, pitchers and reserves, fans will have the opportunity to select the final position player for each League's 32-man roster at MLB.com. Immediately following the Major League Baseball All-Star Selection Show on ESPN, fans will have three days to cast their votes from two lists of five players from each League. Both winners of the "etopps All-Star Final Vote" will be announced on Wednesday, July 9 on MLB.com.

The 74th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT).

ESPN Radio will provide exclusive, national radio coverage, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage and MLB.com Radio will provide exclusive play-by-play coverage of the game on the Internet.
